Football finds itself battling two very different crises, yet both expose the same underlying problem: a lack of decent leadership.
At the global level, relations between FIFA and UEFA have deteriorated dramatically. What began as disagreements over governance has now escalated into open confrontation. UEFA has accused FIFA of bypassing proper consultation and has even threatened legal action.Gianni Infantino’s leadership,(the word is being very loosely applied here) is under threat and he might not survie the 2027 FIFA presidential election.
The dispute is about far more than money. It is a struggle over who will shape football’s future. UEFA believes football’s biggest decisions should be made collectively, while critics argue FIFA has become increasingly centralized around its president. The result is a growing divide between the two most powerful governing bodies in the game
Meanwhile, Italy has provided an equally appalling example of footballing dysfunction.
Andrea Pirlo was all set to become Italy’s new national team coach, backed strongly by Paolo Maldini. Within days, however, the appointment collapsed amid controversy over Pirlo’s commercial relationship with a Russian betting company. Pirlo got the boot even before he got appointed.Maldini also handed in his resignation to show his disapproval of the entire sorry saga.
Italian football is in a mess. A process that should have inspired confidence instead highlighted uncertainty at a time when the Azzurri are already trying to rebuild after years of disappointment.
The parallel between these two stories is striking.
FIFA and UEFA are fighting over the governance of world football. Italy is struggling simply to govern itself. One crisis concerns billions of dollars and global influence; the other concerns the appointment of a single coach. Yet both reveal how quickly trust can disappear when transparency and clear leadership are missing.
Something is usually supposed to be rotten in the state of Denmark – but they are squeaky clean in comparison to the murky going ons in Italy and the FIFA HQ.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
